This week on Classical IPR in Concert, we feature a recent performance of the Traverse Symphony Orchestra with piano soloist Ralph Votapek.  Kevin Rhodes conducts.

The concert is entitled "Beethoven Squared" and is comprised of three Beethoven works.

Classical IPR in Concert can be heard on Interlochen Public Radio on Fridays at 8 p.m. or Sundays at noon.

Join Classical IPR for our third annual Christmas Day from Northern Michigan. Recent holiday performances by regional music ensembles will be featured all day.

This week, Classical IPR in Concert features the October 2019 performance of the Traverse Symphony Orchestra.

Kevin Rhodes conducts "Symphonie Fantastique" by Hector Berlioz and "Giants of the Night" by David Amram, featuring flute soloist Nancy Stagnitta.

Tune in Friday at 8 p.m. or Sunday at noon, or listen below any time.

This concert was engineered by Jack Conners.

"I don't know how many other flute concertos there are with a cowbell," says flutist Nancy Stagnitta in reference to "Giants of the Night," a piece by David Amram.

Stagnitta will perform "Giants of the Night" this weekend with the Traverse Symphony Orchestra. The piece is a tribute to three major figures of the Beat Generation: Charlie Parker, Jack Kerouac and Dizzy Gillespie.

The Traverse Symphony Orchestra performs its “Home for the Holidays” concert this weekend.

Bill Church, theatre director at Interlochen Arts Academy, will give a dramatic reading of a section from “A Christmas Carol.” 

Traverse Symphony Orchestra

This Friday, Classical IPR presents a recent performance given by the Traverse Symphony Orchestra in collaboration with the Traverse City Dance Project.

Jeanmarie Riccobono is the principal clarinetist in the Traverse Symphony Orchestra. She also teaches clarinet at Northwestern Michigan College and the Bay View Music Festival.

She'll be the soloist this weekend in Aaron Copland's Clarinet Concerto with the Traverse Symphony Orchestra.

Riccobono visited IPR’s Studio A for a performance and conversation. She performed the first movement of the Copland concerto with collaborative pianist Susan Snyder.

The Traverse Symphony Orchestra recently presented an all-Rachmaninoff program.

Join Classical IPR Friday night at 8 p.m. for a broadcast of this recent concert under the baton of Kevin Rhodes.

The TSO welcomed guest pianist John Novacek. Novacek was the soloist in Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto no. 1.
