Traverse Symphony Orchestra

"I don't know how many other flute concertos there are with a cowbell," says flutist Nancy Stagnitta in reference to "Giants of the Night," a piece by David Amram.

Stagnitta will perform "Giants of the Night" this weekend with the Traverse Symphony Orchestra. The piece is a tribute to three major figures of the Beat Generation: Charlie Parker, Jack Kerouac and Dizzy Gillespie.

The Traverse Symphony Orchestra performs its “Home for the Holidays” concert this weekend.

Bill Church, theatre director at Interlochen Arts Academy, will give a dramatic reading of a section from “A Christmas Carol.” 

Traverse Symphony Orchestra

This Friday, Classical IPR presents a recent performance given by the Traverse Symphony Orchestra in collaboration with the Traverse City Dance Project.

Jeanmarie Riccobono is the principal clarinetist in the Traverse Symphony Orchestra. She also teaches clarinet at Northwestern Michigan College and the Bay View Music Festival.

She'll be the soloist this weekend in Aaron Copland's Clarinet Concerto with the Traverse Symphony Orchestra.

Riccobono visited IPR’s Studio A for a performance and conversation. She performed the first movement of the Copland concerto with collaborative pianist Susan Snyder.

The Traverse Symphony Orchestra recently presented an all-Rachmaninoff program.

Join Classical IPR Friday night at 8 p.m. for a broadcast of this recent concert under the baton of Kevin Rhodes.

The TSO welcomed guest pianist John Novacek. Novacek was the soloist in Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto no. 1.

John Novacek is a multifaceted musician: he’s a pianist who performs regularly as a soloist, in chamber ensembles, and with orchestras, and he also composes. Novacek will be the soloist with the Traverse Symphony Orchestra this weekend in their season finale concert.

Gary Gatzke is the principal double bassist of the Traverse Symphony Orchestra and the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra. He is also the interim Executive Director of the Traverse Symphony Orchestra. Gatzke will be one of several soloists featured this weekend in the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra’s Bach Family Festival.
