Tina Qu will take the helm as the Traverse City Philharmonic's concertmaster this September.

The Traverse City Philharmonic has announced its 2025-26 season, including new musical leadership.

Interlochen faculty violinist Tina Qu will make her debut as the TC Phil's new concertmaster in September.

"This appointment brings an exciting new chapter for the orchestra and for me," Qu told IPR. "It shows my full commitment to the community to have this new role in addition to my teaching at Interlochen."

Qu becomes concertmaster following the retirement of Paul Sonner, who is stepping down after more than two decades in the role. Sonner retired from Interlochen Arts Academy in 2021.

Kevin Rhodes, artistic director and principal conductor of the TC Phil, called Sonner "my good friend and literal left-hand man for 24 years" and invited the northern Michigan community to celebrate Sonner's "inestimable contribution" to the orchestra and the community during the TC Phil's concert on April 13.

Along with the announcement of Qu's new role with the orchestra, the TC Phil has released details about concerts happening in the summer of 2025 as well as the 2025-26 season.

In July, the TC Phil will present two concerts at the Civic Center Amphitheater in Traverse City. Guest violinist Andrew Singer Sords will return to northern Michigan and perform in these concerts that include music of John Williams, Ludwig van Beethoven and Peter Tchaikovsky.

Tickets for the TC Phil's two summer concerts will go on sale on Monday, April 14 here.

The TC Phil's 2025-26 season will include guest soloists violinist Yevgeny Kutik, pianist Claire Huangci, trumpeter Caleb Hudson and pianist Jeffrey Biegel.

The orchestra will also perform with guest ensembles including the NMC Choirs in the Brahms Requiem and the NMC Women's Choir in Holst's "The Planets."

The Series at the Center will feature jazz as well as chamber music performances in the MSUFCU Desk Drawer Foundation Hall at the Traverse City Philharmonic Center.

Season tickets for 2025-26 are already on sale, and single tickets will go on sale July 1. View the season ticket order form here.

Ticket forms will also be available in person at the TC Phil's "For the Love of Nature" concert on Sunday, April 13 at 3 p.m. in Interlochen's Corson Auditorium.
