Trumpeter Wynton Marsalis has often been at the crossroads of jazz and classical music both as a composer and a performer.
He helped launch Jazz at Lincoln Center, which has become a respected entity at Lincoln Center alongside the Metropolitan Opera and the New York Philharmonic.
Marsalis is the only musician to have won a Grammy Award in both jazz and classical categories in the same year.
As a composer, his 1997 oratorio “Blood on the Fields” was the first jazz composition to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music.
Students at Interlochen have performed music by Wynton Marsalis frequently. This episode of the Interlochen Collection features Interlochen Arts Academy and Camp student musicians performing music by Marsalis, including the Blues Symphony and his Cello Concerto.
