IPR FAQs

Answers to some of Interlochen Public Radio's most frequently asked questions

Where can I find a news story I heard at a certain date and time?

  • Local stories produced by IPR News journalists are posted HERE.
  • Some national stories from NPR programs like Morning Edition and All Things Considered are posted HERE.
  • Many syndicated programs such as This American Life and The Moth Radio Hour post their episodes on their own websites.

Why didn't your reporters cover this recent event?

  • We look for stories that impact northern Michigan, where something is surprising and something is at stake. Our goal is to provide you with new perspectives and information that matter to your daily life.
  • Learn more about how IPR News chooses what to cover HERE.

Are you affiliated with PBS or with WCMU?

  • Interlochen Public Radio is licensed to Interlochen Center for the Arts. WCMU is licensed to Central Michigan University. The two services are not affiliated with each other.
  • Interlochen Public Radio provides public radio broadcasts and programs only. We do not have a TV station or service.

Where can I find what music I heard playing at a certain date and time?

  • Classical IPR's local playlists are posted HERE. You can search by date and time.
  • Some of our syndicated programs provide playlists that are also available HERE, but others like Performance Today do not.

I'm a sustaining donor. How do I change my donation amount or update my credit card information?

  • If you received an email letting you know that your recurring donation failed, click the link provided in the email. You may get a prompt to create an account through give.interlochen.org - if so, please create an account using the same email address that your gift is connected to.
  • If you did not receive an email but want to change your donation amount or your credit card information, please email iprgiving@interlochen.org for help.

My FM reception is terrible where I live. Can't you just increase the power so I can hear you better?

  • Towers are licensed for a specific power level by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) . Power levels are limited to protect all radio stations from encroachment.
  • Some areas of the region like Frankfort are in a depressed area of land, which means most FM signals in that area are hard to receive.

Sometimes I can hear a different radio station on 88.7 FM. What's happening?

  • A phenomenon called tropospheric ducting sometimes allows FM signals to travel hundreds of miles farther than they usually would.
  • This phenomenon happens most often following a cold night that warms up very quickly during the day.
  • During these periods, Classical IPR's 88.7 FM signal is sometimes affected by another 88.7 FM signal from a Christian station in Appleton, WI.

Is Frank Slaughter's Repose program only available at 10 p.m.? Can I listen online at another time?

  • Repose airs every night at 10 p.m. This is the only time slot that it is broadcast. Listener surveys have indicated that 10 p.m. is the time that works best for the most listeners.
  • Complete Repose programs are not available to stream on demand. They are only available from 10 - 11 p.m. during the broadcast. We lack the necessary infrastructure to be able to create an on-demand option for past programs.
  • We do offer an on-demand Spotify playlist featuring many of the artists regularly featured on Repose. You need a free Spotify account to listen.

Why can't Repose, Music by Request, the Interlochen Collection and other music programs be podcasts? I want to listen on demand!

  • The copyright laws regarding the use of music in podcasts make it nearly impossible for us to create podcasts that use complete commercial recordings of music.
  • Learn more about copyright and trademark law for music in podcasts here.

I have lots of CDs and LPs from my personal collection that I want to give away. Will IPR take them?

  • IPR and Interlochen's Fennell Music Library are not accepting physical media including CDs, LPs and tapes. We are also downsizing our physical media collections and moving toward digital files.
  • If you have very rare or unusual items in your collection that have not been reissued in a digital format, please contact us with list and description.
  • If you have physical media of student performances from Interlochen Arts Academy, Arts Camp or National Music Camp, please contact Interlochen Center for the Arts' archives department directly.

Why don't you feature more Interlochen students on the radio?

  • Although we would love to have Interlochen students on the air as guest hosts, they are very busy. Many Interlochen Arts Academy music students are in classes and rehearsals from 8:30 a.m. until 5:50 p.m. during the week, and then they have homework and need to practice.
  • We are pleased to feature student performances as often as we can in our Studio A program and podcast.

I still can't find the answer to my question.
