For their first major city performance of Interlochen's much-anticipated "Imagine US: Celebrating America at 250" tour, Interlochen Arts Academy students performed in Detroit's Orchestra Hall alongside members of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra with cellist Tommy Mesa, recipient of Lincoln Center’s 2025 Avery Fisher Career Grant and the Sphinx Organization’s 2023 Medal of Excellence.
The program includes the premiere of a new cello concerto composed by Wynton Marsalis, the Symphony no. 4 by Charles Ives and RE|Member, a work by Reena Esmail. Multidisciplinary elements such as dance, film, animation and theater bridge the music with a visual spectacle. The performance unites Interlochen's departments across disciplines to celebrate the past, present and future of the United States.
Classical IPR broadcasted the concert live from Orchestra Hall in Detroit on March 10th at 7 p.m., co-hosted by IPR's Amanda Sewell and WRCJ's Dave Wagner.
