Duncan Cooper recently had his first day of school as West Senior High School's new choir director.
However, Cooper is no stranger to Traverse City Area Public Schools—in fact, he graduated from Central High School, where he was heavily involved with music. His experiences in these programs fostered his love for music and the broader TCAPS community.
Cooper cited TCAPS as one of the reasons for his return: "TCAPS drew me back. It's one of the best music districts in the nation, in my experience, and the way they grow music K-12 is truly special."
Looking forward, Cooper hopes to "continue that legacy of excellence" installed by previous director Erich Wangeman.
Cooper spoke with Classical IPR's Emma Stadelmann about his journey as a musician, his return to Traverse City and his hopes for the West Senior High School choir program.
