Traverse City Philharmonic announces 2025 Youth Concerto Competition

The winner of the concerto competition will perform with the TC Phil this October.

Young classical musicians in northern Michigan, take note: the Traverse City Philharmonic's 2025 Youth Concerto Competition is now open.

Classical musicians of all instruments and voice types are invited to enter this year's competition. Participants must be 18 or younger and permanent residents of northern Michigan. (See additional details and rules here.)

"This concerto competition helps promote local young talent, gives an amazing performing opportunity and builds the connection between the youth and adult talent here in northern Michigan," said Angela Lickiss Aleo, director of the Community Music School at the Traverse City Philharmonic.

Interested participants can learn more at this link. Deadline for entry is August 1, 2025.

Concerto competition finalists will compete during the final weekend of September, and the winner will perform their piece with the TC Phil in October.

"For the winner, the resulting concert performances are an obvious outcome," Aleo said. "But all of the hard work and dedication that goes into the preparation is also extremely rewarding, and those are good life skills for a young performer to learn."

Dr. Amanda Sewell is IPR's music director.
