You will walk away an expert on what cheese goes well with what dish or what to serve at your next party or maybe you will just walk away with a better understanding or cheese in general. With Sarah Christensen. Class begins with slow stretching to increase flexibility and body awareness. Also balance studies. Dancers then move to progressions across the floor involving, patterns, turns, and exploring the space through movement. Center work blends turns, technical skills, traveling floor combinations, standing and sitting with choreography for class dance pieces. Repetition is key for all dancers to build muscle memory, confidence, and grace while having a wonderful time.
Suggestions for attire:Wear comfortable clothing and shoes and bring a water bottle.
Join us for Here:Say Presents: Twist of Fate, where scheduled performers will take the stage to tell true, first-person stories about a time in their lives where a chance happening led to something they could not have predicted.
Every Wednesday, join us for relaxed acoustic play at the Old Art Building. Share techniques, talents and good vibes. We play pop, blues, rock, jazz, bluegrass ... All levels of ability are welcome. Knowledge of basic chords is helpful. And of course, you are more than welcome to just hang out and listen. Jam session is hosted by Jim Redmond. Jim supplies lyrics and chords on large screen video so everybody can easily join and jam along.
Occasionally lessons are thrown in—Jim’s commentary about the history of a song and some music theory. Shared musical knowledge and songs by attendees add to the fun. Every session begins with “The Carp River Blues” and ends with “Sportin’ Life Blues”.

The 5toOne Playgroup is a free playgroup for parents and their children ages 0-6 years old, gathering at Grow Benzie's Event Center, that includes a snack, a story-time and engaging activities designed for children 0-6. 5toOne Playgroup is a place where we help children thrive and connect parents with information and resources to ensure that all children reach their highest potential. Older siblings are always welcome.
Oliver Art Center presents its annual Winter Market from November 9th - December 22nd. Featuring the handmade work of more than 30 local and regional artists and craftspeople. The wide assortment of gift items includes ornaments, jewelry, ceramics, cards, wearable art, prints, paintings and photography- all perfect for holiday giving.
Oliver Art Center is open Tuesday - Saturday from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm and Sunday from noon-4:00 pm. OAC is closed on Mondays and on November 28th and 29th for the Thanksgiving holiday.
The exhibit highlights the work of four Michigan artists and focuses on the interplay of the abstract and the organic as showcased in the whimsical and sculptural wood furniture of John DeHoog and the playful yet sophisticated mixed media abstract paintings of Christy DeHoog Johnson. Michelle Krievins-Newman’s layered, color field paintings create a rhythmic balance against the geometries and patterns explored by Joan Richmond in her interpretive landscape paintings.The four artists in this show will be on hand to discuss their methods, materials, and individual artistic journeys and visions during a round-table discussion on November 30th from 2:00 - 4:00 pm.
A grief support group/class will be offered at the East Bay Branch Library on Thursdays from 1-3pm, beginning October 3, 2024. This group/class will meet each Thursday (except for holidays) through mid-December. Grand Travers Musicale will present a concert on November 14 featuring the NMC Chamber Singers, under the direction of Jeffrey Cobb, in a performance of “Songs of Refuge and Mercy”.
The 1:00 p.m. performance will take place in the Chapel at the First Congregational Church, 6105 Center Road, in Traverse City. The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served in the Garden Room following the concert.
