Classical IPR regularly broadcasts recent concerts from northern Michigan. Hear performances by local ensembles, Interlochen students, visiting professional artists and more. Listen every Friday at 8 p.m. Many concerts are also available to stream on demand.

This Friday at 8 p.m., Classical IPR in Concert presents a recent recital given by pianist Sarah Cahill at Interlochen Center for the Arts. Each piece on the program was composed specifically for Cahill.

Classical IPR in Concert presents the Interlochen Arts Academy Singer-Songwriters in Studio A.  We caught up with a group of five students as they were about to embark on a tour of the Midwest with instructor Kyle Novy. Fellow instructor Courtney Kaiser-Sandler took a different student group to South by Southwest.

Classical IPR in Concert presents a recent performance given by the Brentano String Quartet at Interlochen Center for the Arts.

The quartet performed Ludwig van Beethoven's String Quartet in C minor (op. 18, no. 4) and the String Quartet no. 12 in D-flat major by Dmitri Shostakovich. 

Nancy Conforti and Michael Culler engineered the recordings made at Interlochen.

Pianist Sandra Shapiro serves on the faculty of the Cleveland Institute of Music. She has also taught at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Interlochen Arts Academy. 

Shapiro recently gave a recital at Interlochen Center for the Arts entitled "In My Father's Footsteps - A Daughter's Search for Answers." This recital is the first of the four-part series "Musical Roots: An Exploration of Cultural Heritage."

Classical IPR in Concert: TSO Beethoven and Bunch

This week Interlochen Public Radio presents an encore broadcast of the Traverse Symphony Orchestra’s February 2019 concert.

The program includes Beethoven's Egmont Overture and his Symphony No. 3. Michael Coonrod is the piano soloist in the world premiere performance of the Concerto for Piano, Left Hand by Kenji Bunch.

Classical IPR in Concert: Guitarist Marcin Dylla

Guitar virtuoso Marcin Dylla performed at Interlochen Center for the Arts in November 2018.

Interlochen Center for the Arts recently welcomed violinist Stefan Jackiw and pianist Conrad Tao to the Dendrinos Chapel and Recital Hall. They performed music of Stravinsky, Lutoslawski, Saariaho and Brahms.

This Friday, Classical IPR presents a recent performance of Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky's ballet Swan Lake from Interlochen Arts Academy.

The performance from December 2018 featured students in the Academy Dance and Orchestra programs.

The orchestra was conducted by Leslie Dunner. Joseph Morrissey is the director of dance.

This week Classical IPR in Concert features pianist Jonathan Biss and tenor Mark Padmore performing late works of Franz Schubert. The concert took place in the Dendrinos Chapel and Recital Hall at Interlochen Center for the Arts.

Alex Fiterstein, Alon Goldstein and Amit Peled

Pianist Alon Goldstein, cellist Amit Peled and clarinetist Alex Fiterstein are all respected soloists, teachers and ensemble musicians. They formed the Goldstein-Peled-Fiterstein Trio in 2005, and in recitals, they perform as soloists, in duets, and as a trio.

Throughout the year, Interlochen Public Radio welcomes a variety of guest artists to our Studio A. They give interviews and exclusive performances. 

The Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra and Chorus opened the 2018-19 season with a performance featuring works by Gwyneth Walker, Joseph Suk and Sergei Prokofiev.

This concert includes the world premiere of Gwyneth Walker's Great Lakes Overture. Libor Ondras conducts.

Traverse Symphony Orchestra

This Friday, Classical IPR presents a recent performance given by the Traverse Symphony Orchestra in collaboration with the Traverse City Dance Project.

Baroque on Beaver is a multi-day classical music festival held every summer on northern Michigan's Beaver Island. Soloists, chamber ensembles and a festival orchestra gather to perform and interact with audiences.

This week, Classical IPR in Concert presents one of the festival orchestra's concerts, called Baroque on Fire.

Pianist Richard Goode is one of the leading interpreters of Beethoven's music alive today. He has recorded all of Beethoven's piano sonatas and piano concertos.
