Come join the discussion about Tim O’Brien’s celebrated short story collection "The Things They Carried". Published in 1990, the book explores the experiences of soldiers who served in the Vietnam War. The book was also the target of censorship challenges, and has been selected as the Banned Books edition of our Leelanau Reads community book discussion.
Copies of the book are available at the library and local booksellers. NOTE: a second discussion will take place later in the day at 2:00 pm.
Learn diverse dance styles and make new friends in a warm and welcoming environment. Whether you’re a complete beginner or an advanced dancer, everyone is invited to join the fun.
Designed for dancers of all ages and skill levels, our Social Dance Classes offer an opportunity to learn new dance styles and enjoy the camaraderie of other dance enthusiasts. Each week, you’ll explore a different dance genre such as salsa, waltz, swing, or tango. Under the guidance of one of Interlochen’s skilled instructors, you’ll learn the steps and techniques—all while connecting with others and gaining confidence on the floor.
The classes emphasize the joy of moving to the music, sharing laughs, and creating memorable moments. Come dance with us and experience the delight of social dancing.
Book Club meets on the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 pm
On Thursday, October 16 at 7:00 p.m., the stars of tomorrow light up downtown Traverse City in a fast-paced revue of Broadway favorites, from Golden Age classics to today’s hits.

The Oliver Art Center’s upcoming exhibition explores the elements as they inspire artists’ work in a variety of media. The exhibit opens with a reception on Friday, October 17 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. The show will close with an Artist Talk on November 21 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM. Both the reception Artist Talk are free and open to the public.
The exhibit showcases the work of Michigan artists who employ oils, wax, printmaking, ceramics and other materials to interpret the effect of elemental properties on the world around us through paintings, photography, ceramics and sculpture.

Join the Interlochen Arts Academy Choir as they explore two of the defining impulses of our shared humanity: curiosity and wonder. Under the guidance of Dr. W. Carter Smith, the ensemble will perform a selection of songs inspired by the themes of curiosity, wonder, and the human experience.
