Feb 21 Saturday
Grab your winter hiking gear and join Walloon Lake Association and Conservancy staff for a guided snowshoe hike at Postle Farm Preserve. We’ll explore this magnificent protected area in search of signs of winter wildlife activity. We’ll take a quick detour to enjoy a glass of wine at Boyne Valley Vineyards – our next-door neighbors to the preserve – before returning back to the preserve trailhead to end the hike.
Your first glass of wine and light appetizers are on us! WLAC will provide snowshoes or crampons for participants, if conditions require them.
This event is free and open to the public. Directions to the Postle Farm Preserve trailhead can be found here.

SMALL IS BEAUTIFUL: LIVING LARGE IN A TINY HOUSE
In 2012 Leelanau County couple Rolf and Mari von Walthausen decided to move from their 2,000 square foot home into a 240 square foot tiny house. The couple will talk about their radical resizing -- how and why they did it -- at the Glen Arbor Arts Center February 22, 1 pm. The program, Living Large In A Tiny House, is free, and is offered as part of the GAAC’s INteriors exhibition.
The von Walthausens’ transition from a conventional dwelling to one of more modest dimensions was a process of exploration, and experimentation. They were challenged by the necessity to divest themselves of stuff, both dear and dispensable; and to discover how two grown adults could find deep satisfaction living in a small space. But the largeness of what they gained in relation to what they willingly gave up is at the heart of this story. The program will include slide images of the von Walthausens’ home and place.
The GAAC’s INteriors exhibition is January 9 - March 12. In the event of inclement weather, the snow date for Living Large In A Tiny House is March 7. For more information go to GlenArborArt.org / EVENTS.

Spend two days immersed in the subtle beauty of the Zorn Palette.
This classic set of just four colors—vermilion, yellow ochre, black, and white—unlocks a surprisingly rich and expressive range. Named after Swedish painter Anders Zorn, the palette is renowned for its ability to evoke mood and atmosphere.
This workshop begins with hands-on exercises in color mixing, value, and theory, designed to deepen your understanding of this elegant palette. Then, you’ll apply what you’ve learned through guided painting projects using landscape and still life imagery provided by the instructor. Along the way, we’ll discuss mark-making, composition, and when and how to thoughtfully expand the palette. All work will take place in the studio.
