Hear two operas this weekend from the WFMT Radio Network Opera Series. The L.A. Opera On Air pairs William Grant Still’s "Highway 1, USA" with Alexander Zemlinsky’s "The Dwarf" — on Classical IPR on Saturday at 1 p.m.
In "Highway 1, USA" by William Grant Still, Norman Garrett and Nicole Heaston star as a hardworking Black couple determined to build a better life, whose years of sacrifice turn out to be misguided. Alexander Zemlinsky's "The Dwarf" is based on a gothic tale by Oscar Wilde about one-sided love in a decadent Spanish court. Both productions are conducted by L. A. Opera Music Director James Conlon.
