Join for an evening of conversation and learning about PFAS “forever chemicals” and their impact on our water, health, and communities.

The presentation and panel discussion will examine PFAS from multiple perspectives. Attendees can ask questions, hear directly from panelists, and learn about resources to better understand PFAS and its effects, how communities are responding, and the role individuals and local partners can play in protecting our water and supporting informed community action.

The 2^nd annual Long Lake Farmers Market will kick off on June 4^th and run every Thursday through October 1^st from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Stop by the market located at Haywood Park, due east of the Long Lake Township Hall at 8870 N Long Lake Rd, Traverse City, Michigan 49685, near the bocce ball courts.

We are excited to create a community-based farmers market that celebrates the historic agricultural traditions of Long Lake Township, while providing opportunities for Long Lake residents and the surrounding community members to buy and sell locally grown and produced products.

Help plant native plugs at the Maple Bay Natural Area! Volunteers will learn about and take an active part in the Conservancy’s ongoing habitat restoration projects by assisting with planting plugs grown in our very own greenhouse. Species planted will include flowering plants and grasses.

Explore the unique artistic voices of artists Mark Mehaffey, Sandra Ackerman, Logan Hudson, and Les Scruggs in Field of Vision. Each artist brings their own style and thoughtful creativity to the depiction and interpretation of the environments humans interact with. From forest-lined back roads to dramatic cloudscapes to humble vistas, these works bring the striking beauty of our everyday landscapes into sharp focus.

Opening reception August 29th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Refreshments will be served, all are welcome.

An Artists’ Talk will be held October 2nd at 2:00 pm.

Every year the Conservancy sends out appeals for support to further our mission of protecting land, and every year we are overwhelmed with gratitude for the generosity of our donors. We have found that spending time writing simple yet personal “thank you” notes for our donors is a fantastic way to share our appreciation.

"Was My William Smith in the Civil War?" with Brian Rhinehart

Over ten percent of the US population fought in the Civil War in the 1860s. Using (mostly) free resources, learn some tips on how to determine if your ancestor was in the war, and how to differentiate among those common named soldiers.

Designed for first-time memoirists working on a book-length project for public readers, this workshop explores the two-strand structure behind many successful memoirs. We'll review model memoirs, apply the ideas to your work, and share with the group. Come with an idea or draft and leave with a clearer roadmap for your story. Registration required.
