As part of our 100 Year Celebration, Benzonia Public Library and the Mills Community House are issuing a call for photos and memorabilia. If you are willing to let us scan your photos or are looking to donate them to the organizations, please plan to attend one of the above days. There will be someone onsite to assist with scanning and you will leave with your original documents that day. Thank you!
Get ready to venture into the dynamic world of Earth science! The Pebble Pups and the GTCD are thrilled to announce a joint celebration of Earth Science Week (October 12th -18th) and National Fossil Day (October 15th)!
This immersive experience will showcase the incredible ways Earth science is conducted by a diverse range of people and professions. From geologists to hydrologists, environmental scientists to paleontologists, you will discover how these interconnected disciplines work together to solve critical problems for our communities and the planet.
This year's Earth Science Week theme, "Energy Resources for Our Future," will spark fascinating discussions and activities as we explore the vital role Earth science plays in securing sustainable energy for generations to come.
We'll also be diving deep into the past as we celebrate National Fossil Day! Get ready to marvel at a collection of truly amazing fossils, uncovering the secrets they hold about ancient life and Earth's incredible history. You won't just learn about fossils – you'll leave with one of your very own to start your personal collection!

Something To Smile About: Mixed Media Paintings By Carol C Spaulding
Leelanau County artist Carol C Spaulding brings Something To Smile About, a small group of new mixed media paintings, to the Glen Arbor Arts Center’s Lobby Gallery. The exhibition runs September 2 - December 17.
Working intuitively, Spaulding combines cut-paper collage with exuberant painting. She creates lively compositions in a bright, uplifting palette, full of expressive lines, inserting an array of delightful marks and icons. “I like to begin with an open mind and a playful attitude,” Spaulding said.

Each month Women in Tech gathers to build community and support amongst women working in, or interested in, the tech industry and tech-related roles or as an entrepreneur in the field. This meetup is casual, fun, and easy to drop into. We talk about what we’re currently working on, share our stories, and pool our collected expertise to support each other.
Build local connections to help you reach your goals. Gatherings are often made up of half-returning and half-new attendees, creating a welcoming and approachable energy.
This event is free and open to all, including students! Light snacks will be provided.
Registration is requested to ensure ample seating, but walk-ins are always welcome. Look for the Women in Tech/20Fathoms signage.

A public forum to provide information on the issue of Hospice and Palliative care will be held Wednesday, October 15 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. It is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Northern Lower Michigan (LWVNLM). The forum will be held at the Petoskey District Library’s downstairs conference room. Participants can attend either in person at the library or by Zoom.
Program overview:Paul Blanchard, MD will provide a brief overview of issues and decisions to be considered as end of life approaches. He has extensive experience managing chronic disease and in advanced care planning discussions.
Courtney Brinkman, MSN, FNP-C of NorthStar Palliative Care will explain what Palliative Care is, when it is appropriate, who provides it, and what insurance coverage might be available.
Chris Hurley, LPN, Business Development and Sales Supervisor for McLaren Health Management Group, will discuss Hospice Services in our community. Chris will focus on eligibility, scope of services, where they are provided, what hospice providers are available locally, what is the cost and what insurance coverage might be available.
A question and answer period will follow.
Empire resident Ginger Langdon will discuss her new book, Empire After Dark. The collection of vignettes recount the many every day yet magical encounters with the varied animal residents of the village. This is the first book written by Langdon, who retired to Empire after a long corporate career.
