"Mentorship Can Be Life Changing"

"Mentorship Can Be Life Changing"

Famous actor, James Earl Jones, moved to Dublin, MI as a young boy. During his early years he developed a severe stutter so he seldom spoke. His high school English teacher, Donald Crouch, challenged him to recite a poem he had written aloud in front of the class. He was successful in doing so and he often credited his teacher and mentor with helping him find his famous voice.

The Arts and Culture Alliance of Manistee County commissioned sculptor Bernadette Zachara Marcos, of Honor, to create bronze sculptures of James and his teacher with the theme "Mentorship can be life changing".

The sculptures are located at Kaleva Norman Dickson school in Brethren.

Learn more about this project at the Betsie Valley District Library, as presented by Cindy Asiala, President of The Arts and Culture Alliance of Manistee County.
