Boyne City Main Street purchased the Boyne Theater on Sunday from Boyne City Taproom owner, Richard Bergman, for $350,000.

Before closing in 2003, the theater was used for both movies and as a performance space, according to Boyne City Main Street Executive Director Kelsie King-Duff,

“The main screen is on a heightened stage," she says. "So in the past, even the Boyne City School drama productions and things like that were there.”

Families and friends that have succumbed to COVID-19 in northern Michigan will live on forever in the memories of those who loved them.

Every passing was a blow to the tight-knit communities throughout the region.

The Friends of the Boyne River

Boyne City plans to make it illegal to jump into the river from a stretch of boardwalk and other locations.

Mayor Tom Neidhamer says police noticed large roots and other dangerous material near an area where local kids like to jump 20-30 feet into the water.

"We don't to stop people from having fun," he says. "That's what living in Northern Michigan is all about. But there's a safety issue."

He says swimming and floating on the river will still be allowed.

City commissioners expect to vote on the ordinance at the next meeting on July 9.

Anti-fluoride activists set sights on Traverse City

Voters in Boyne City elected to put fluoride back into their water supply last week.

Ben Hansen said his group – Fluoride Free in TC – still wants to put the issue before Traverse City voters next year.
