Our conversation with Punya Mishra.

A Michigan State University professor is using ambigrams to explore creative ways of thinking and playing. "Ambigram is a way of writing words so they can be read in many ways."

Punya Mishra is a Professor of Educational Psychology and Educational Technology. His designs are being displayed at theMSUMuseum. Theexhibitionis called “Deep-Play: Creativity in Math and Art through Visual Wordplay.”

Creativity comes out of putting together ideas from different disciplines in new and novel and unique combinations. And only when you have a foundation which is broad that cuts across disciplines can you make that happen. If you have a very narrow perspective there is no way you can have new ideas to come in. And so that’s why the arts and playing become so important because that’s where the combinatorial explosion can possibly happen.

The “Deep Play” exhibit runs till the end of June at the Michigan State University Museum.
