The Association of Black Judges of Michigan said that the Michigan Judicial Tenure Commission has “over the past 15 to 20 years prosecuted Black judges at a disproportionately higher rate than White Judges.” A review meant to address concerns of possible racial bias began this week.

Lawyers are scheduled to give closing arguments Monday in the trial of Adam Fox and Barry Croft. This is their second trial on conspiracy charges related to the alleged Whitmer kidnapping plot. The jury deadlocked in their first trial.

A power failure at a pumping station on Detroit’s east side kept some pumps from working during a June 2021 rainstorm and prevented others from coming online. But according to the report, while the pumping failures likely “exacerbated” the flooding, it was the sheer amount of rainfall in such a short period of time that overwhelmed the sewer system.

Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency says it accidentally overpaid unemployment benefits during the pandemic. The state has forcibly collected much of that money from people who received unemployment. That led to a class-action lawsuit from plaintiffs who say the state violated their due process rights.

Andy Levin, an Oakland County Democrat, has introduced the Enhanced Pay for Election Workers Act in the U.S. House. It would provide states with grants to boost pay for poll workers.
