As Michigan’s dine-in restaurants grapple with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s executive order to stop sit-in service, some are switching to takeout and delivery.
Sara Charles manages Turkey’s Cafe and Pizzeria in Harbor springs. She says they are switching their business model immediately for pick-up orders.
“We are staying open during normal business hours and doing takeout. We’re optimistic that we’ll still get some business flow that way,” Charles says.
“We are fully sanitizing everything… the cash register, anything. We’re going to use our side door for take out instead of everybody coming through the front door.”
Meanwhile, in Ludington, Brenda Cole, owner of Brenda’s Harbor Cafe, doesn’t know if she’ll be able switch to takeout immediately.
“I think we’re all just in shock that we’re being shut down this much,” Cole said, noting that she's worried about how her staff will manage financially.
Whitmer’s order also includes closing bars, gyms, casinos, and performance venues. The ban remains in place through March 30.
