New leadership for IPR News

Jeff Smith

Interlochen Public Radio is proud to welcome Noelle Riley as our next news director. She brings a wealth of editorial experience, a passion for journalism and a strong sense of how to lead a newsroom.

Formerly the editor of Craig Daily Press in Colorado, Riley led the newspaper to winning numerous awards including overall editorial excellence three times in four years. IPR’s executive director Peter Payette says her high aspirations are what public radio needs.

“Noelle is someone who believes firmly in the crucial role journalism plays in our society,” he says. “We are glad to bring her into the world of public media.”

Riley has been a business reporter and worked on The Denver Post's podcast, one of the first podcasts producedby a newspaper in the United States. She moved to Northern Michigan in 2017 and has been a freelance contributor to multiple publications, including the Traverse City Record-Eagle as a podcast producer.

“Noelle has an adaptive approach to news which is essential for the future of this profession,” Payette says.

Noelle and her husband, Shawn Riley, live in Suttons Bay. She graduated from Metropolitan State University of Denver in 2005, majoring in news editorial and minoring in broadcast.

Feel free to call her with news tips or to say “hi” at 231-276-4418. You can also email her at noelle.riley@interlochen.org.
