Ellison said getting national standards for PFAS levels could take more than a decade, but having differing state standards could create a "regulatory nightmare" in the meantime.

Stateside's conversation with MLive's Garret Ellison.

The EPA held a national PFAS Summit in Washington on Tuesday to dive into issues surrounding the per-and-polyfluoroalkylsubstances which have contaminated groundwater in sites across the country, including 31 known sites here in Michigan.

It drew representatives of state governments, tribes, environmental groups. and federal agencies.

MLive's Garret Ellison has been covering PFAS contamination in Michigan. He was in D.C. for yesterday's summit andjoined Statesidetoday to tell us what was discussed there.

Listen above to hear what other states and groups have said at the summit, why there's conflict between states and the EPA in creating PFAS standards, and whether victims of PFAS contamination can be encouraged by these conversations.
