This month marks the two-year anniversary of the disappearance of Ludington infant Katherine Phillips. Tomorrow the search for Baby Kate’s body continues, with the help of some uniquely qualified volunteers.

In a letter written by Sean Phillips, the baby’s father, he said his daughter was in a “peaceful place.” His shoes were captured as evidence and scientists have since looked on the soles to identify a rare combination of plants and soil. For two days a group of volunteers will trudge through the woods to identify these plants, looking to find places where they coexist.

Investigators intend to use the volunteers’ findings to greatly narrow the search area for Baby Kate’s remains.

In a statement from Ludington Police Chief Mark Barnett about the search he said,  “It is the confident opinion of investigators that it is not a matter of if we can find this location, but rather when.”
