Sound Garden Project kickoff makes waves this weekend with free lakeside concerts

This summer, wherever you go, you might stumble upon classically trained musicians performing just for you.

It’s all part of IPR’s Sound Garden Project, which kicks off this week. The series brings free outdoor classical concerts to unexpected places across northern Michigan.

One of the featured ensembles, the Kodak Quartet, will be especially active near the water this week.

On Friday, June 13 at 9:30 p.m., you can catch them playing a sunset concert around a beach fire at Empire Beach. Then on Saturday, June 14 at 1 p.m., they’ll return for a floating performance at the Narrows on Big Glen Lake. Keep an eye out — you might even spot the project’s founder, Matthew Schlomer, swimming out to your pontoon to hand you a pamphlet.
