Revisit a 1959 concert from the Interlochen Bowl featuring music by Beethoven, Grieg, Stravinsky and Hanson.

On Sunday, August 9, 1959 Howard Hanson led the National High School Symphony Orchestra in its sixth complete concert of the summer.

The recording heard on this program was made by the Radio Department at Interlochen's National Music Camp.

Interlochen wouldn't have its own year-round radio station until Interlochen Public Radio was created in 1963.

The National Music Camp's Radio Department recorded more than 150 concerts during the eight weeks of camp in 1959. Selections from these recordings were then produced into radio programs that were distributed to radio stations across the United States and Canada.

In 1959, the Radio Department at Interlochen's National Music Camp produced 92 radio programs and distributed them to radio stations around the United States and Canada.
