For writers at any level, but especially for those interested in creating history – inspired pieces. Enjoy hiking through select farms, woods and fields of the lovely Port Oneida historic region with local poet and playwright Anne-Marie Oomen. With the beautiful surroundings and oral history of the farms as your inspiration, along with guidance and instruction from Anne-Marie, you will have the opportunity to write and share some creative prose.

Join us for a vibrant celebration of Indigenous art and culture at the Jordan River Arts Council. This exhibit builds on the success of our 2023 show, showcasing contemporary visual and performing arts rooted in the traditions of Native Peoples from Northwest Michigan. Featuring a diverse array of media, the exhibition honors Indigenous voices and creative excellence. Small works by participating artists are also available for purchase in the JRAC Gift Shop. The Oliver Art Center’s upcoming exhibition explores the elements as they inspire artists’ work in a variety of media. The exhibit opens with a reception on Friday, October 17 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. The show will close with an Artist Talk on November 21 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM. Both the reception Artist Talk are free and open to the public.
The exhibit showcases the work of Michigan artists who employ oils, wax, printmaking, ceramics and other materials to interpret the effect of elemental properties on the world around us through paintings, photography, ceramics and sculpture.

Poet Glover Davis will share selections from his various collections including Academy of Dreams. Davis is Professor Emeritus of Creative Writing at San Diego State University, where he taught for almost forty years. His work has been feature in many journals. Mr. Davis splits his time between Empire, Michigan and Mason, Texas.
Join the Interlochen Arts Academy Choir as they explore two of the defining impulses of our shared humanity: curiosity and wonder. Under the guidance of Dr. W. Carter Smith, the ensemble will perform a selection of songs inspired by the themes of curiosity, wonder, and the human experience.
