Capture your furry friend in watercolor! Learn to paint pets with personality—whether realistic or vivid and wild—while receiving guidance for individual success. In this fun, beginner-friendly class, students will explore value, color, and expressive techniques to bring their pet portraits to life. Through step-by-step demonstrations, students will be guided in using tools and techniques while providing hands-on support as they create their own artwork. Learning happens through doing, so students will be painting from the start. Leave with new watercolor skills and a one-of-a-kind portrait that reflects each pet’s unique personality.

Objective: Skill Development

This gentle movement practice brings peace and tranquility to your day and moves energy and circulation in the body, helping ease pain and strengthen our muscles, joints, bones and spirits.

Led by instructor Flora Biancalana, this class is very approachable for all experience and mobility levels. The class is done standing, or in a chair, and does not require any special equipment or ability.

Suggested Donation: $10/class

This historical display started in August and has been extended until September 29, at the Alden District Library. Learn new techniques or refresh your skills in surface decoration using sgraffito, slip trailing, and overglaze brushwork. The instructor will provide tiles and extruded pieces. Students are welcome to bring their leather-hard pieces to decorate.

NOTE: Finished pieces are normally ready for pick up within 2-4 weeks.

We're so excited to collaborate with the talented, long-running group Benzie County Players to present the Garden Theater's first musical performance!

Come From Away is a successful Broadway musical based on the events in the Newfoundland town of Gander during the week following the September 11 attacks, when 38 planes, carrying approximately 7,000 passengers, were ordered to land unexpectedly at Gander International Airport. The characters in the musical are based on actual Gander residents and the stranded travelers they housed and fed.

Come on out to help plant native plugs at Abby’s Woods, found within Arcadia Dunes Nature Preserve! Volunteers will learn about and take an active part in the Conservancy’s ongoing habitat restoration projects by assisting with planting native plugs grown in GTRLC’s very own greenhouse.

Created by artist Mary E. Burns, the exhibit features 29 handwoven jacquard portraits celebrating scientists, activists, educators, artists, and Indigenous water protectors from more than 20 countries. Through intricate textile art, the exhibition explores the universal importance of water and the women whose work helps sustain and protect this essential resource.

The exhibition will be on display on the Petoskey District Library's second floor from August 27 through October 15, 2026.

Throughout its run, the library will offer docent-led tours, related programs, book displays, and community conversations that explore themes of water, environmental stewardship, Indigenous knowledge, and women's leadership.

Torch Area Artisans Guild (TAAG) meets every Tuesday from 10am-12pm. We have been creating art and contributing to our community for over 40 years. We are quilters, embroiderers, knitters, weavers, painters, potters, jewelers, and more; all artists welcome!
