Northwestern Michigan College (NMC) invites the Grand Traverse community to an immersive, open-air listening event featuring a high-fidelity playback of Georg Friedrich Haas’s landmark composition, "in vain".

The free public gathering will take place on the main campus quad, nestled between the Timothy J. Nelson Innovation Center and Founders Hall. Attendees will experience this transformative piece of music as the September full moon ascends over the eastern treeline, creating a rare convergence of natural spectacle and cutting-edge acoustic art.

This is an outdoor listening experience on the grass of the campus quad, so bring blankets, lawn chairs, and warm layers for outdoor seating.

Round up the family and head out to Coy Mountain, located at 9011 Valley St. in Alden, to enjoy a romp in the woods and reading a good book along the way. A new story will be placed each month and covers about a 1/2-mile portion of the trail.

Join us in a exploration of the season of Autumn and the Metal element through the ancient Daoist practice of Qigong. Based on the natural rhythms of nature qigong allows us to connect with our internal energy and the energy of the natural world we are part of. Through gentle movements/flows, breath work and meditation we begin to cultivate and move energy and circulation in our bodies helping to strengthen our muscles, joints, bones and spirits.

We will learn about the Five Phases, yin and yang, the importance of intention, how to develop more balance and and health in our lives while exploring the Metal Phase within the Five Phase Daoist Practice. We will have fun as we tune into our own life energy!

We recommend eating breakfast before the workshop.

This class is very approachable for all experience and mobility levels. The class is done standing, or in a chair ,and does not require any special equipment or ability.

Lunch will be provided and will correspond with the Season of Autumn and the Element of Metal.

This is a huge biennial bazaar. Items for sale include: kitchen & home decor, lawn & garden, arts & crafts, Christmas decorations, homemade baked goods, children's toys & books, jewelry & accessories and handmade gifts.

Proceeds from the sale are used to support local charities.

Come help plant native plugs at Pyatt Lake: The Bill Carls Nature Preserve! Volunteers will learn about and take an active part in the Conservancy’s ongoing habitat restoration projects by assisting with planting native flowering plants and grasses grown in GTRLC’s very own greenhouse.

See unusual pure American chestnut trees. Docent led tours Wednesdays through Saturdays, 11am to 4pm. Discover the Mission House that gave Old Mission Peninsula its name.
