A program on the status of the Benzie, Leelanau, Kalkaska, Antrim, and Grand Traverse multi-county Materials Management Plans. These plans, required by the State, were designed to guide management of waste materials, with an emphasis on recycling and composting. Speakers: Lydia Gulow, Resource Recovery Director for Grand Traverse County, and Mathew Cooke, Community Planner at Networks Northwest.

The Guided Walking History Tours of Traverse City will begin its tenth season on July 9th, following the National Cherry Festival.
The informative tour is about two and a half hours covering a two-mile route. The tours begin at the Perry Hannah Plaza, located at the corner 6th and Union St. near downtown.
There is no charge for the tours, but gratuities for the guides are appreciated. Groups of six or more can schedule tours at other times.
For 2025 our 10:00 AM walking tours begin on Wednesday July 9th and continue daily through October 8th. No reservations are needed, simply arrive by 10:00 AM please.

Designed for dancers of all ages and skill levels, our Social Dance Classes offer an opportunity to learn new dance styles and enjoy the camaraderie of other dance enthusiasts. Each week, you’ll explore a different dance genre such as salsa, waltz, swing, or tango. Under the guidance of one of Interlochen’s skilled instructors, you’ll learn the steps and techniques—all while connecting with others and gaining confidence on the floor.
The classes emphasize the joy of moving to the music, sharing laughs, and creating memorable moments. Come dance with us and experience the delight of social dancing.

Come join the discussion about Tim O’Brien’s celebrated short story collection "The Things They Carried". Published in 1990, the book explores the experiences of soldiers who served in the Vietnam War. The book was also the target of censorship challenges, and has been selected as the Banned Books edition of our Leelanau Reads community book discussion. Copies of the book are available at the library and local booksellers.
Screening of 'Powerful Women', a Cannes Film Festival award-winning documentary film followed by an in-person presentation by Madhvi Dalal. Among the film’s key subjects, Dalal is the founder of Padmad and is a social entrepreneur working in Kenya, Somalia, and Malawi.
This State Theatre Community Night is presented in partnership with Uplift Travel, NMC’s International Services & Service Learning Program, and the International Affairs Forum at Northwestern Michigan College.
