We see birds everyday, everywhere, some more often than others, but pollution and the consequences of modern technology, pesticides, and land development as well as the spread of invasive species increasingly impact their natural habitats, threatening their survival. How often do we stop to look and listen, take in their beauty, colors, patterns, behaviors, songs, and marvel at the magic of flight? Songbirds, raptors, shorebirds, arboreal birds and scavengers—each play an essential role in maintaining balance in our ecosystem.

“For the Birds” includes nine artists whose compelling works explore their own attraction to birds as a subject, whether rendered as two-dimensional images or 3D objects in printmaking, pen and ink, fiber, found materials, mixed media or the moving image. Each artist’s distinct approach and vision brings heightened awareness to the act of looking—imperative to both birding and art. “For the Birds” offers an opportunity to meditate on the shapes, colors and details within the broad range of avian species—inviting us to appreciate their diversity as vital to the environment, and our role in protecting the natural habitats we share.

Explore the unique artistic voices of artists Mark Mehaffey, Sandra Ackerman, Logan Hudson, and Les Scruggs in Field of Vision. Each artist brings their own style and thoughtful creativity to the depiction and interpretation of the environments humans interact with. From forest-lined back roads to dramatic cloudscapes to humble vistas, these works bring the striking beauty of our everyday landscapes into sharp focus.

Opening reception August 29th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Refreshments will be served, all are welcome.

An Artists’ Talk will be held October 2nd at 2:00 pm.

This group will gather once a month to share and learn more about the value of creativity in our daily lives. Over a warm mug of brewed tea/coffee (or ice tea/lemonade in the summer!), come connect with others, share ideas, find inspiration, and practical tips to lead a more creative and whole-hearted approach to life. Each month, in addition to checking in with one another, we will explore different practices (journaling, stitching, collaging, photography) that may pique your creative curiosity.

Each week the group will meet at the front desk of the Glen Arbor Art Center and will move to locations such as Pine Street Studio, the GAAC Classroom, the GAAC grove or Thoreson Farm.

Join East Bay Corners Farmers Market on Thursdays from 2:00–6:00 PM at the East Bay Township Offices (1965 N. 3 Mile Road, Traverse City).

Shop fresh local produce, baked goods, handmade items, and more while connecting with neighbors and supporting regional farmers and small businesses.

The market proudly accepts SNAP/EBT benefits and participates in the Grand Traverse County Senior Produce Program to help make fresh, local food accessible to all.

Curious about drawing but not sure where to start? This one-day Drawing Fundamentals workshop is the perfect introduction to the basics of drawing in a fun, relaxed environment. Whether you’re a beginner or looking to refresh your skills, this hands-on session will give you the tools to start drawing with confidence.

Participants will explore foundational techniques such as line, shape, shading, proportion, and perspective. Through guided exercises and simple still-life drawing, you’ll learn how to see like an artist and translate what you see onto paper.

When three vastly different office workers - Violet, Judy, and Doralee - are pushed to the brink by their sexist, egotistical boss, they don’t just get mad…they get even. Through a wild mix-up of fantasy, farce, and bold determination, the trio hatches a plan to take control of the office and transform their toxic work environment into a place of respect and possibility.

Step back in time at the 1842 Dougherty Mission House built by Chief Agosa, the Odawa and Ojibwe people and Rev. Peter Dougherty. Explore life from 1842 to 1917 through the house, outbuildings and demonstration garden.

See unusual pure American chestnut trees. Docent led tours Wednesdays through Saturdays, 11am to 4pm. Discover the Mission House that gave Old Mission Peninsula its name.

Dr. Carl Palazzolo, a wildlife veterinarian for over 47 years, will be giving a presentation on his book "The Comeback of our National Symbol in Michigan." The 200 page, hard-cover coffee table book with 174 photos, was 10 years in the making. In his presentation you will see beautiful photos of bald eagles, and learn about the biology of our national symbol, along with behind-the-scenes pictures and stories on how they are cared for medically and surgically.

The proceeds of sales will go to the rehabbers and other behind-the-scenes people that do so much of the work to care for injured wildlife.

Join us for live music set along the shoreline of Lake Leelanau.

All music is weather dependent.

No tickets required. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis; guests are encouraged to arrive early to secure their spot and get settled.
