Nonfiction Launchpad: Starting Your Writing Project with BAHS

Nonfiction Launchpad: Starting Your Writing Project with BAHS

Led by The Benzie Area Historical Society's Steve Veatch.
This class provides aspiring nonfiction writers with the foundational tools and strategies needed to successfully launch their projects.

Participants will delve into various aspects of the pre-writing phase, including identifying compelling topics, conducting initial research, developing a clear thesis, and structuring a basic outline. We will explore different nonfiction genres—from memoir and biography to journalistic reporting and explanatory writing—to help writers pinpoint the best fit for their story. Emphasis will be placed on developing a strong authorial voice, understanding ethical considerations in nonfiction, and overcoming common hurdles in the early stages of a writing endeavor. By the end of this course, you will have a well-defined project concept, a preliminary outline, and a clear roadmap for moving forward with their nonfiction work.

A Historical creative writing program.
Registration strongly encouraged.
