Media Literacy 101 - Mis and Dis Information - How to tell if the Information we receive can be trusted

On Tuesday, April 16 from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM at the Traverse Area District Library, the League of Women Voters of the Grand Traverse Area will present a program titled Media Literacy 101. Speakers Rebecca Pierce, Executive Editor of the Traverse City Record Eagle; Scott Harmeson, Adjunct Professor at GVSU; Ed Ronco, IPR News Director; and Tak Ready, Senior High School civics educator will discuss identifying mis and dis information and how to tell if the information we receive can be trusted. Topics will include AI, social media discrepancies, effective use of communication strategies, a reporter's code of ethics, a reporters accuracy checklist and how media literacy is taught in high school government and civics classes.
