For week 2 of the 99th Interlochen Arts Camp, the World Youth Symphony Orchestra took the stage of Kresge Auditorium under the baton of guest conductor Earl Lee on July 12, 2026.
The program opened with "Keepers of the Krown," a 3-movement contemporary work by Patrice Rushen, who had composed the work based on a sculpture installation of the same name. It was followed by Ottorino Respighi's visually evocative "Fountains of Rome," before Igor Stravinsky's 1919 "Firebird" Suite filled the lakeside atmosphere.
Listen back to the performance and to Classical IPR's conversation and insights before and after the concert.
The broadcast included interviews with Interlochen Center for the Arts President Trey Devey, composer Patrice Rushen and conductor Earl Lee.
Isabel Li produced this week's program.
Benjamin Stephens engineered the broadcast with support from Michael Culler, Julian Daulat and Ramida Nivasnanda.
We had additional help from Emily Ostrowski, Aidan McLaughlin and Courtney Kaiser-Sandler.
