Dr. Tim Topolewski, director of Traverse City Philharmonic's amateur ensemble Encore Symphonic Winds, spoke with IPR's Scott Clemens in Studio B about leading the ensemble and upcoming concerts.
Encore Symphonic Winds is comprised of approximately 50 to 60 amateur musicians in the Grand Traverse region, many of whom have been playing together for 35 years.
"It's a wide variety of vocations that many of these people come from. We have several doctors, we have dentists, we have quite a number of people who for whatever reason, became really fixated on their instrument and music-making," said Topolewski. "There's something about the arts that once it grabs onto you, it can stay. And that's where many of these people are getting their background from."
Encore Symphonic Winds will be performing this Sunday, October 12, 2025 at 3 p.m. and later this year on December 14, 2025 at 3 p.m. at the Traverse City Philharmonic Center.
