The Bill Sears Quintet takes the stage at The Alluvion in Traverse City this Saturday.

Bill Sears stopped by Classical IPR to share both his favorite recordings and insights into his career. The interview includes 4 original jazz compositions performed by The Bill Sears Quintet.

Sears started out in the Chicago jazz scene and has recorded with music legends like Dizzy Gillespie, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, and Tony Bennett. At Interlochen Arts Academy, Bill Sears spent 34 years as the Director of Jazz Studies and Instructor of Saxophone.

For jazz fans eager to experience Sears's music live, the Bill Sears Quintet will be performing Saturday, Feb. 1 at the Alluvion in Traverse City, MI.

From the Alluvion: "Bill Sears and his A-list band kicked off The Alluvion Jazz Series last year and although it was winter, the room was 100 degrees by the time the band finished the first tune! Bill is coming back for more, with a few new cats on the band stand."

Scott Clemens is Classical IPR's Digital Content Producer and host of Afternoon Classical.
