On Friday night in Manistee, the Shoreline Music Society will host its inaugural performance at the Ramsdell Regional Center for the Arts. The group will perform pieces from Richard Wagner and Franz Schubert, but the concert will be different from what you might expect.

Identity Cubed is a percussion trio that focuses on transcending the music of the standard percussion ensemble. They will be performing July 25 at the Ramsdell Regional Center for the Arts.

Xavier Verna of Identity Cubed chatted with IPR’s Amanda Sewell about the group and its upcoming concert. Verna is also the executive director of the Ramsdell.

Karen Curlee says when you get to a certain age and you start wondering, “What’s it all about?” you should go back to do what you did at 13 years old. For Karen, that was singing.

“Nobody could sing like I could sing when I was 13,” she says. “There was no technique involved. It was just I knew how to sing.”
