Classical IPR in Concert

Pianist Richard Goode is one of the leading interpreters of Beethoven's music alive today. He has recorded all of Beethoven's piano sonatas and piano concertos.

Dr. Leslie B. Dunner conducts the Interlochen Arts Academy Orchestra this Friday night.

Classical IPR brings you the concert live from Corson Auditorium.

On the program will be a suite from "The River" by Duke Ellington, Leonard Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from "West Side Story" and Malambo from "Estancia" by Alberto Ginastera.

The Gregorian Schola is a special division of the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music in Rome. Its students are dedicated to the study and preservation of Gregorian chant.

Members of the Gregorian Schola recently visited Northern Michigan. They presented concerts of chant from medieval manuscripts .

This week Classical IPR brings you a concert by the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra and Chorus conducted by Libor Ondras. It's a program they performed this summer at the Great Lakes Center for the Arts.

Dylana Jenson and David Lockington appear with the orchestra to perform the Concerto for Violin and Cello by Johannes Brahms. The concert also includes familiar works by Smetana, Copland and Bernstein. Listen Friday at 8 p.m.

Dave Calendine is the house organist at the Fox Theatre in Detroit. He regularly performs during Detroit Red Wings hockey games.

Calendine recently gave a recital at the Music House Museum, performing Broadway favorites on the museum’s 1924 Wurlitzer theater organ. See below for more information about the instrument.

In 2017, the Interlochen Arts Academy Jazz Ensemble celebrated The First Lady of Song in a concert called “A Centennial Birthday Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald.” The Jazz Ensemble was joined for this concert by two special guests, Gary Motley and Carmen Bradford.

 The Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra recently presented its Bach Family Festival Concert. The concert featured music of Johann Sebastian Bach, Carl Philip Emanuel Bach and Johann Christian Bach, as well as Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf.

Caroline Bittencourt

The Danish String Quartet is known for their iconic mix of traditional string quartet repertoire and their own arrangements of Danish and other Nordic folk tunes. They have played everywhere from Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center to NPR's Tiny Desk Concerts. 

The Danish String Quartet recently performed in Corson Auditorium at Interlochen Center for the Arts. Join Classical IPR this Friday at 8 p.m. for a special presentation of this recent concert.

The Detroit Symphony Orchestra and Interlochen Festival Choir are featured along with broadway star Rachel Gold and violinist Yesong Sophie Lee.

The Traverse Symphony Orchestra recently presented an all-Rachmaninoff program.

The TSO welcomed guest pianist John Novacek. Novacek was the soloist in Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto no. 1.
