The Anderson Economic Group has updated its initial analysis of economic damages from an extended period of wildfire smoke from Canada, estimating a total loss in 10 states of more than $38 billion.

Rain and favorable winds could improve smoky conditions until another round at the end of the weekend, meteorologists said. Still, fine particulate matter in the air can impact breathing and exacerbate health problems.

Events were canceled and people were urged to stay indoors amid warnings of health risks from the plume drifting down from Minnesota and Canada.
