Great Lakes Maritime Academy

President Trump wants the U.S. maritime industry to have more vessels under the flag of the United States. That will tap into a short supply of merchant mariners.

The industry is already teetering on the edge of a labor shortage for entry level officers. Will there be enough cadets? We go out on the water at the Great Lakes Maritime Academy in Traverse City.

The Traverse City school is one of six such academies in the country. A new bill will expand the age eligibility for financial aid, with the hope of getting more people into maritime jobs.
