Points North: Misunderstood and maligned birds

This week we bring you two birds with very different reputations. 

One is a charastmatic invasive  moving into urban areas, protected by public affection. The second is native to the Great Lakes, but maligned for its appetite for fish and acidic droppings.  

Public opinion still holds great sway over how the two are managed.

While mute swan eradication efforts are unlikely to proceed in populated areas, cormorants will be hunted in Ontario next week.
