National Writers Series: Suzanne Mettler

Suzanne Mettler is a Cornell University professor and the author of a number of books in her field of political science. Her latest is called “Rural Versus Urban: The Growing Divide that Threatens Democracy.” In it, Suzanne and her co-author Trevor Brown make the case that political division in the U.S. is caused in great part by geographic division: in other words, rural versus urban. They also hope that by understanding this dynamic, we can help heal the divide. Suzanne Mettler spoke with Michigan Public associate general manager and political director Zoe Clark, at the City Opera House in Traverse City in January of 2026.
