National Writers Series: Kate Baer

Shawn K Roach

There are only so many authors of poetry who make it to the New York Times Bestseller list, and Kate Baer is one of them. Her fans love her direct and honest writing about being a woman, on motherhood, and self-discovery. Kate has written four collections of poetry, including “What Kind of Woman,” and her latest, “How About Now.” She spoke with Beth Milligan, head writer for the Traverse City Ticker, in December of 2025. Kate greeted a crowd full of poetry lovers in this last stop on her book tour, at Milliken Auditorium in Traverse City.
