The Metropolitan Opera’s 2025-26 season of Saturday matinee broadcasts continues on March 7 with Part Two of Berlioz's epic opera, "Les Troyens."
This historic performance from 1974 – aired over two Saturdays – is an Artist's Choice from Yannick Nézet-Séguin, the Met’s current Music Director, in honor of Rafael Kubelík, the Met’s first Music Director. The Czech conductor introduced "Les Troyens" to the company, and this all-star broadcast comes from that momentous run.
Part Two of the opera – titled "Les Troyens à Carthage" – The Trojans in Carthage – follows the warrior Aeneas, hero of Roman mythology, as he pursues his destiny after the downfall of Troy. It stars tenor Jon Vickers as Aeneas and mezzo-soprano Christa Ludwig as Dido, Queen of Carthage, with a cast also featuring Mignon Dunn, John Macurdy, Judith Blegen, and Kenneth Riegel. Rafael Kubelík conducts the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and Chorus.
Listen to the broadcast of "Les Troyens à Carthage" on Classical IPR at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2026.
