The Metropolitan Opera’s 2025-26 season of Saturday matinee broadcasts continues on February 28 with the first in a two-part presentation of "Les Troyens," Hector Berlioz's grand opera based on Roman mythology.
Met Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin selected this 1974 performance as his Artist's Choice in honor of the eminent Czech conductor Rafael Kubelík, who was the company’s very first Music Director. Maestro Kubelík famously championed Berlioz’s epic and introduced it to the Met. Part one of the opera, "La Prise de Troie" (The Capture of Troy) stars mezzo-soprano Shirley Verrett as the priestess Cassandra, baritone Louis Quilico as her fiancé Coroebus and tenor Jon Vickers as the warrior Aeneas, with Rafael Kubelík leading the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and Chorus.
Listen to the broadcast of "La Prise de Troie" on Classical IPR at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2026. Part Two of "Les Troyens" will air the following Saturday.
