The Metropolitan Opera’s 2024-25 season of Saturday matinee broadcasts continues with Rossini's "L'Assedio di Corinto" (The Siege of Corinth).
From the Met: "Join us as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Beverly Sills’s historic Metropolitan Opera debut in Rossini’s 'The Siege of Corinth.' Sills starred in this dramatic and rarely performed gem, alongside Shirley Verrett and Justino Diaz, conducted by Thomas Schippers.
"'The Siege of Corinth' was performed in an Italian version prepared by Thomas Schippers in 1969 for La Scala, Milan, under the title 'L'Assedio di Corinto.' This edition in turn was based on 'Le Siège de Corinthe,' Rossini's revision for Paris of an earlier work, 'Maometto II,' from which Schippers reinstated numbers excised by the composer in adapting his tragedy for the French public.'"
