The Metropolitan Opera’s 2021-22 season of live Saturday matinee broadcasts continues with the transcendent experience of Philip Glass’s Akhnaten.
Countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo reprises his Grammy Award-winning portrayal of the visionary pharaoh who tried to convert Egypt to the worship of a single god – the sun god Aten.
The cast also features Rihab Chaieb as his wife Nefertiti, with Zachary James, Dísella Lárusdóttir, Aaron Blake, Richard Bernstein, and Will Liverman.
Karen Kamensek conducts the Met Orchestra and Chorus in this mesmerizing score.
Akhnaten will be heard live over the Toll Brothers-Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network at 1:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, May 28th. Listen to it on Classical IPR.
