The Metropolitan Opera’s 2021-22 season of Saturday matinee broadcasts continues with Verdi’s towering Don Carlos.
Met music director Yannick Nézet-Séguin leads the opera at the Met this season for the first time in its original French.
Tenor Matthew Polenzani stars in the title role of the Spanish prince, opposite soprano Sonya Yoncheva as his beloved Elisabeth, who marries his father the King.
They’re joined by Eric Owens as Philip the Second of Spain, Jamie Barton as the Princess Eboli, Etienne Dupuis as Rodrigue, the Marquis of Posa, and John Relyea as the Grand Inquisitor.
During the intermissions, HD host Ailyn Pérez will interview the stars backstage.
Don Carlos will be heard live over the Toll Brothers-Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network at 12:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, March 26. Listen to it on Classical IPR.
