This week we’re highlighting selections from Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti’s opera “La Fille du Régiment,” or “The Daughter of the Regiment.” Today, we learn that Marie is in love with Tonio, who saved her life. The 21st regiment won’t allow Tonio to marry Marie unless he becomes a soldier. Today we hear, “Ah, mes amies,” French for “Ah, My Friends,” in which Tonio unites with the French soldiers in hopes they will give him permission to marry Marie.
