Michigan State University’s board of trustees will pick former Michigan Gov. John Engler to be MSU’s interim president on Wednesday.
The Michigan Public Radio Network confirmed the choice today.
Engler, a Republican, served three terms as governor from 1991 to 2003.
MSU’s former president Lou Ann Simon resigned last week, following criticism for her role in the Larry Nassar sex abuse scandal. Nassar is a former MSU and USA Gymnastics doctor who was sentenced to prison last week for 40 to 175 years. He is alleged to have abused more than 150 young women and girls.
The Detroit Free Press reports that former Gov. Jim Blanchard will also serve as an advisor to Engler.
