According to unofficial election results, voters approved a plan to pay for improvements to Benzie County schools. The proposal passed with more than 700 votes as of Wednesday morning. Voters knocked it down in three previous elections.
The plan would raise $39 million in taxes over the next 25 years. That would fund a long list of improvements like the new locker rooms, as well as a few big ticket items including roof replacements, a new elementary school, science labs and a fleet of new buses.
Irene Wesley voted for the millage Tuesday.
"Because our kids are important. They are the future. They need what they need,” she said.
