Another COVID-related death in Grand Traverse County

Interlochen Public Radio

On Saturday, the Grand Traverse County Health Department reported another death and one more positive case of the coronavirus. That brings the county total to 3 deaths and 12 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

The latest deceased woman was in her 80s and had recently traveled, according to the health department. As of Saturday afternoon the department has tested 218 people in Grand Traverse County, 170 have come back negative.

"Statewide, the number of cases is growing rapidly, with approximately 1,900 new cases reported positive (Friday). As the numbers rise, and given that some intrastate travel is allowed, it is essential that residents follow the guidelines for staying home and social distancing," the health department said in a press release.

So far, 72 people in northwest lower Michigan have tested positive for the coronavirus and eight people have died. Twenty-one people have tested positive for the virus in the Upper Peninsula.
