State regulators heard from people who were caught in the late-March ice storm that devastated northern Michigan. This week on the Up North Lowdown, we'll hear what they suggested that might help the state better face future disasters.

We'll also hear from Tina Talbot, who became a voice for domestic violence awareness after serving nearly two years in prison for killing her husband, who was abusing her.

Munson Healthcare is bringing in nurses from the Philippines for its Traverse City hospital. Some 170 people are expected to come from the country to work as nurses. We'll explore that.

And a word or two about Turtlefest in Elberta — and what organizers hope you'll keep in mind this spring as you drive around our area roads.
